Belotero Balance®

Fill Etched-in Facial Lines In Beverly Hills, Los Angeles

For treating fine, "etched-in" lines that develop around the mouth—such as vertical lines above the upper lip—the No. 1 dermal filler of choice at Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills is Belotero Balance®. The Los Angeles-area physician-only practice offers the dermal filler to patients who want to smooth out fine lines around the lip and mouth area without creating the appearance of too much volume. The key to natural-looking results lies not only in the filler's unique characteristics, but also in the experienced hands and talented eyes of the practice's team of board-certified dermatologists. Dr. Derek Jones was an investigator on the original FDA trial for Belotero®, which the FDA approved in 2011. When Dr. Jeanette Black was a fellow at the practice, she joined Dr. Jones to further research and publish on the use of the filler for fine "etched-in lines" of the cheek, forehead, and upper lip.

With minimal discomfort and results that are quickly noticeable, Belotero® is an attractive option for women and men looking to show a more youthful texture on their face. As key opinion leaders on injectable fillers—and physicians closely associated with Belotero® specifically—the Skin Care & Laser Physicians team looks to Belotero Balance® to deliver subtle yet refreshing results.

Why Would I Need Belotero Balance®?

Facial aging happens to everyone as hyaluronic acid and collagen predictably break down and diminish in the skin. While maintaining a healthy diet, staying hydrated, and—most importantly—avoiding exposure to ultraviolet radiation can keep skin looking youthful for a long time, an aging body naturally becomes less efficient at replacing key elements that are vital to keeping wrinkles at bay. As levels of hyaluronic acid (responsible for well-moisturized skin) and collagen (necessary for a facial structure and tone marked by roundness and fullness) drop, lines begin to form. These may take the form of severe nasolabial folds or fine lines that make the area around the mouth look wrinkled and aged.

These lines are known as "static wrinkles" because they appear as the skin loses volume, not because of the dynamic motion of facial muscles. That means adding volume can be a safe, efficient, and effective way to achieve a smoother, younger look in key areas.

Anyone unhappy with age-related lines around the mouth and in other regions of the face may be a good candidate for Belotero Balance®. A dermatologist on the Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills team can assess the lines you want to address and suggest a filler, other injectable, or combination of solutions intended to not only smooth the wrinkles, but maintain a balanced look.

Our Physicians internationally regarded key opinion leaders and researchers in minimally invasive facial aesthetics.

Belotero Balance® Explained

Belotero Balance® is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler ideally suited to treat fine lines. Belotero Balance® outperforms other hyaluronic acids for fine lines and creates a smooth appearance without creating the look of too much volume, especially around the lip and mouth area. The smooth and cohesive gel evenly integrates with your own dermal tissues and discreetly enhances your facial contours. Since hyaluronic acid molecules have an affinity for bonding with water molecules, it also rehydrates your skin for a radiant appearance. In clinical studies, 97 percent of patients showed visible improvements after just one treatment with Belotero Balance®.

Clinical studies also revealed that 66 percent of patients continued to show a visible improvement nine months after a single treatment. Most clients opt for follow-up treatments after six to 12 months to maintain a fresh, youthful appearance. Your own recommended maintenance schedule will depend on your cosmetic goals, lifestyle factors, and other variables to be discussed at a personal consultation.

Your Belotero Balance® Treatment

All injection sessions at Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills, including Belotero Balance®, begin with cleaning the injection site. Patients who are concerned about how the needle will feel can request an anesthetic to reduce sensation in the treatment area. After this is applied, if necessary, your dermatologist will begin making the carefully placed injections. In some cases, the injected filler may be gently massaged in order to ensure its even distribution. The amount of filler needed will depend on the patient, and the entire treatment session should last only minutes.

Belotero® can be injected very superficially into fine and "etched in" lines, where it tends to become very smooth and has less risk of creating too much volume or lumps and bumps, as may happen with other hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

Smoother skin should be apparent right away, though Belotero Balance® injections can result in minor swelling, bruising, or both. These are typical skin reactions and require no special care, as the swelling will go down and the bruising will fade on its own.

Patients are free to be as active as they'd like after a session. No rest or recuperation are needed. As always, however, everyone is encouraged to wear sun protection, including a high-quality sunscreen, to protect against UV damage.

With proper care, Belotero Balance® results can last for six months or longer. Patients can return for new injections when the volume added from a previous injection session starts to diminish.

More Dermal Filler and Injectable Options

In an effort to accommodate a wide variety of patients with specific needs, Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills offers multiple dermal fillers and other highly researched and trusted injectables. Some of the most popular options are Juvéderm® products, including Ultra, Voluma®, Vollure, and Volbella®. While all of them add volume to the skin to combat signs of facial aging, each of these fillers from Allergan has a particular focus, with its formula matching its intended use, whether restoring youthful facial contours, subtly enhancing the lips themselves, or reducing the severity of nasolabial folds.

Another family of fillers, Restylane® by Galderma, also includes multiple unique formulations. Both lines are, like Belotero Balance®, hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Radiesse® takes a different approach, introducing a water-based gel filled with small calcium spheres to not only add volume, but also to stimulate specialized cells that create collagen.

Apart from dermal fillers, Dr. Derek Jones and the team also provide BOTOX® injections to smooth out dynamic wrinkles. Unlike static wrinkles, these lines develop as muscle activity in the face pulls the skin into fold-forming positions over and over again over years and decades.

The Skin Care & Laser Physicians of Beverly Hills team excels at matching the ideal treatment to the patient, basing a recommended customized plan on each person's individual variables: condition of skin, severity of wrinkles, desired goal, medical history, etc. Anyone considering Belotero Balance® to address signs of aging around the mouth and elsewhere should come prepared to have questions answered and develop a long-term strategy for looking their best.
